God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. 1 Corinthians 1:9
What did Jesus come to tell us?
About the new covenant, the new testament, where those who are called run the race together for a position in the heavens to rule with Jesus Christ.
He calls it a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession. (1 Peter 2:9)
Jesus' blood confirmed the new testament.
Now as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and after blessing it broke it and gave it to the disciples, and said, “Take, eat; this is my body.” And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them, saying, “Drink of it, all of you, for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. Matthew 26:26-28
Here’s an interesting comparison.
- No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him. And I will raise him up on the last day. John 6:44
- Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. John 14:6
So God is the one who attracts people to Jesus Christ. They must then go through Jesus Christ to get to the Father. An example is in prayer, where you must pray through Jesus Christ to God.
His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence. 2 Peter 1:3
You can be sure that the calling God has given you will be realized.
And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28-30
Do you suffer in your calling? Jesus Christ, the apostles, and God’s prophets did. Sometimes we do too.
And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you. 1 Peter 5:10
If you are called, you must ensure that you’re aiming for the highest calling there is.
For many are called, but few are chosen. Matthew 22:14
Are you chosen?
Jesus told his disciples, students, that he chose them. (John 15:16)
Maybe we are too: Put on then, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience. Colossians 3:12
So run this race with all you’ve got with hope of the promise of a position in the heavenly kingdom with Jesus Christ.
There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call. Ephesians 4:4
Fear not, little flock, for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom. Luke 12:32
And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ. Philippians 1:6
Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. He who calls you is faithful; he will surely do it. 1 Thessalonians 5:23-24
On a related point, the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable. Romans 11:29
Continue on! (Philippians 3:14)
