bigstockphoto_news_1215526.jpgThanks for visiting our blog. This blog is dedicated to current news and special interests that may not be found in our Bible Study or Prophecies sections.

Jesus Christ, Jehovah God's Son, told us to watch. We watch the news and current events because many situations might fit what the scriptures say. It can help us to better prepare ourselves for Christ's second coming. Our articles are meant for sharing on information to watch both in current events and in improving ourselves as disciples of Jesus Christ.

We encourage comments and information regarding Bible scripture.

An End to the Violence?

Written by
The mass killing of young children, their defenseless teachers, and other school employees in Newtown, Connecticut cut to the heart of many people around the world, as did the murders and shootings of Webster, New York firefighters who were ambushed as they responded to a blaze set by their killer, and the brutal gang rape and beating that caused the death of a 23-year-old woman in India all just last month. More often than not, incidents like these are not isolated ones, and seem to occur with greater frequency and more calculated violence. Like many people, perhaps you, too, have questioned why and how some humans can treat others with such savagery and absolute disregard for life and feeling. At times, we may even feel like we are becoming desensitized to such brutality, because it seems to have become almost commonplace. While it might seem like a small consolation right now, the Bible provides some answers to the reasons behind mankind’s evil behavior, and proves there is an end in sight, too.

The Time is always a current event. In fact, the time is always “now”, because we live from moment to moment in this life. How much time do you have, either today, or this week, or month, or year? If you had all the time in the world, what would you do differently than what you are doing now? And if you could do whatever you want, would it align with Almighty God Jehovah’s will for you?

A Resolution Worth Keeping

Written by

At the close of another year, many people engage in some reflective thinking about the time gone by. They may remember things they have done--both the positive and negative--or even harbor some regrets about what they didn’t accomplish. Some individuals embrace the beginning of a new year as a time to make a fresh start or resolve to become a better person in one way or another.

Perhaps you, too, have spent some time in recent weeks contemplating the future or considering the kind of person you are. Maybe you have cultivated some ideas about what you might improve or change in the months to come. But how quickly do your hopeful expectations seem to fade after a few weeks; forgotten in the midst of our generally hectic lives that seem to pass so quickly?

21 December 2012: The End of the World?

Written by
The conclusion of the year 2012 has sparked much attention, causing some to wonder if it will bring about the end of the world as we know it. Much of this speculation is based on the Mayan calendar, which does not extend beyond this year. That leaves some people questioning whether or not the ancient culture had a sort of divine insight about what might occur at that point in time. A series of popular books and movies about the end times has also added fuel to the curiosity. While speculation can sometimes cause people to question things on a deeper level, there are a number of fact-based points to take into consideration as to when this present world actually will come to an end.

Fear Factor

Written by
Are you familiar with the popular television program called “Fear Factor”? The context of the show pits contestants against one another who willingly participate in stunts that invoke fear or disgust in many people. Some past features included eating live cockroaches and laying in a tank with live snakes writhing over them. In the show, they can refuse a challenge at any time if they want to. Now take a moment to think about how many people are exposed to real fear every day, without a choice in the matter.

Humility and the Root of Resistance

Written by
What is humility, and why is it important for us to be humble? To be humble means to be meek, lowly, down-to-earth, and demure. It also means that you are not proud or haughty, not arrogant or assertive, that you express yourself or offer your opinion in a spirit of deference or submission. When you are humble, you rank yourself low in a hierarchy or on a scale, you consider yourself insignificant, you are unpretentious, and you do not display your lifestyle in a costly manner or luxuriously.

Encourage Each Other

Written by
Hebrews 10:23-25 tells us to encourage each other as we see the day of Jesus Christ’s return and judgment approaching. Why should we encourage each other? We all know that encouragement helps us get through trying situations and tough times. The apostle Paul in Hebrews 3:13 tells the brethren to encourage each other so that we do not become hardened by the deceitfulness of sin.

Where Have All the Manners Gone?

Written by
During a stop at a local post office not long ago, I encountered a little boy not more than 3 or 4 years old, “greeting” everyone who came in and out of the entry way with a loud and very vulgar profanity as he waited for his mom, dad or another adult who he had accompanied there. I glimpsed an elderly woman recoil with a shocked expression as the little guy clearly uttered the obscene phrase to her. What struck me was not so much that this child was being naughty, but that he had picked up that phrase from some sort of interaction in his young life and figured it was an appropriate way to express himself to others. How sad.

Cause and Effect

Written by
It is a small, chaotic world. Spain is back in recession. According to National Public Radio, “Official data on Monday confirmed Spain is back in its second recession in three years after shrinking by 0.3 percent in the first quarter, following a similar decline in the previous three-month period.” The source states, “Ratings agency Standard & Poor's last week downgraded Spain to just three notches above junk, following up the move on Monday by lowering its rating for 11 Spanish banks.” “Investors are worried that Spain will not be able to support its banks, which are burdened with massive amounts of bad loans from an imploded property market. But rescuing Spain, the fourth-largest economy in the 17-country eurozone, might prove too expensive for the continent's bailout funds.” [1]
Have you heard how religions go around saying to people “have you accepted Jesus Christ in your heart”? It is right to have an accepting heart that wants to learn and follow from the teachings of Jesus Christ. But Jesus didn’t go around soliciting like these religions of Christendom are doing. In fact, Jesus said in John 15:16 “You have not chosen me, but I have chosen you…”. Jesus Christ chooses those who have the heart condition of meekness and humility. The wrong attitude is choosing Jesus without any responsibility to learn who Jesus is. It is arrogant to think we can choose Jesus despite any of our actions.
