It Doesn’t Matter How Old You Are

It doesn’t matter how old you are.

Things change.

Effects touch.

Life discloses our state.

We always learn.

“Remember now your Creator in the days of your youth, before the evil days come and the years draw nigh when you shall say, I have no pleasure in them;”

Mountains by the Sea

You might be strong and healthy, with a fit attitude.

Or one might be weak and frail, and experience sadness and mourning.

One might not be able to do physical things as before: lifting, carrying, running, hiking.

“Before life ebbs, beauty fades, fortune fails, and poverty returns after prosperity;”

One can’t stay up as late as they used to.

Or consume as much food, or eat as many sweets.

“In the day when the legs tremble and the arms weaken, and the teeth chew no more because they are few, and the eyes are dimmed,”

Blue Moon

One wakes up in the night.

And can’t go back to sleep.

And so watches the moon.

“And the ears shall be so dulled that the sound of women grinding at the mill is low, and a man shall rise up at the song of birds; and the sound of women singing shall be low;…” Ecclesiastes 12:1-4 (Lamsa)

Bird in Flight

The mind matures and mellows.

The body changes.

The mane turns white.

“The glory of young men is their strength, but the splendor of old men is their gray hair.” Proverbs 20:29

Mountain Peak

All is as predicted.

You can fight.

Or surrender in grace.

In his maturing age, Isaac pronounced a blessing on his son. Genesis 27

Jacob met Pharaoh when he was 130 years old, and passed on predictive blessings to his children. Genesis 47

When Moses was 120 years old, his eye was undimmed and his vigor undiminished. Deuteronomy 34

King David needed to relinquish the duties of battle to his men. But continued to praise with his song of deliverance. 2 Samuel chapters 21 and 22

The prophetess and widow Anna was advanced in years, but did not depart from the temple. She worshipped with fasting and prayer night and day. And when Mary and Joseph brought Jesus to Jerusalem during the time of purification according to the law of Moses, Anna gave thanks to Almighty God and spoke of Jesus to all who were waiting for the redemption of Jerusalem. Luke 2

Boat Dock

With maturity comes wisdom.

Awareness of the existential footprint we leave.

Beach Access

As Paul aged, he preferred to appeal, “Accordingly, though I am bold enough in Christ to command you to do what is required, yet for love's sake I prefer to appeal to you — I, Paul, an old man and now a prisoner also for Christ Jesus — I appeal to you for my child, Onesimus, whose father I became in my imprisonment.” Philemon 1:9

If you are human, embrace it.

Study what connects us, what makes us one.

Absorb compassion.

Be human together.

If we are only servants, we do it as required. As appealed.

Moon and Clouds

He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty…
Because he holds fast to me in love, I will deliver him;
    I will protect him, because he knows my name.
When he calls to me, I will answer him;
    I will be with him in trouble;
    I will rescue him and honor him.
With long life I will satisfy him
    and show him my salvation. Psalm 91
